BELTON, Mo. – U.S. Representative Mark Alford of Missouri drew the ire of his constituents earlier this week while fielding questions about President Donald Trump and advisor Elon Musk’s plans to slash federal jobs.

Dozens of people attended Rep. Alford’s informal town hall on Monday at Random’s Coffee in Belton, Missouri; most had to stand outside. The meeting lasted approximately 90 minutes, according to a report.

Alford was peppered with questions from some who’ve lost their government jobs, while others expressed concern or contempt over cuts to federal agencies and potential tariffs.

The congressman defended the actions of the president and his hand-picked efficiency guru, Elon Musk, much to the chagrin of the assembled crowd, many of whom responded with jeers and boos.

He cautioned people who recently lost their federal job that it “doesn’t mean it’s a lifetime appointment like a Supreme Court [justice].” He attempted to mollify the crowd that “God has a plan and purpose for your life.”

At one point, Alford asked the crowd to check the economy in six months’ time, implying that things would be better.

Alford represents Missouri’s 4th congressional district, which covers the eastern and southern suburbs and exurbs of Kansas City, as well as areas north of Interstate 70. Since 2008, the district has gone Republican in every statewide and national race.

Alford has recently appeared in Missouri news for joining with other congressional Republicans seeking to dissolve the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
