ST. LOUIS – Frank “The Tank” Fleming, a Barstool Sports personality known for his passionate food reviews and New York Mets fandom, gave an intriguing review of a St. Louis hot dog staple during a recent visit to the Gateway City.
In an episode of Barstool Sports’ “Raw Dogging,” a series in which Fleming travels the country reviewing a variety of hot dogs, Fleming visited Steve’s Hot Dogs, located at 5248 Delmar Boulevard.
At the start of the visit, Fleming referred to the restaurant as the “official hot dog of St. Louis” and shared the background of owner Steve Ewing, who was a part of the local band The Urge. Additionally, Fleming explored the different musical elements inside the restaurant, which were inspired by Ewing’s background in music.
During the visit, Fleming tried the restaurant’s plain hot dog, a chili cheese dog, and a side of fries. Instead of using a traditional numeral method to rate the dogs, Fleming used a set of baseball plays to rate the restaurant’s signature dogs.
During the review, Fleming initially took issue with the size of the bun containing the hot dog, calling it a “little too much,” and the cheese not melting on the chili dog.
After trying the hot dogs, Fleming rated the plain dog “a humpback single into center field” and the chili dog “a bunt single.” After trying the two dogs, Fleming eventually switched back to the traditional numeral rating method by giving the side of fries a “6.7.”
Fleming is a personality on Barstool Sports who became popular for his passionate New York Mets opinions and a variety of series on the platform, including “Raw Dogging,” “Tanking,” “Frank Walks,” and more.
Additionally, while in St. Louis, Fleming released an episode of “Frank Walks,” a series in which Fleming walks around interviewing a special guest, featuring St. Louis native and bowler Pete Weber.
Steve’s Hot Dogs has locations in south St. Louis, Delmar, and Chesterfield. Additionally, the hot dog shop has locations in Energizer Park, the Dome at America’s Center, and the Enterprise Center.
