BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Belleville residents Carrie Dyson and Dorion Douglas were buying ice-melting products at the West Belleville Ace Hardware on Friday, and they’re not looking forward to the possibility of snow next week.
“I’m a summer man,” Douglas said.
Store manager Greg Tallian said most shoppers wait until the last minute to stock up on popular products such as pet-friendly ice melts. He encourages residents to stock up now.
“Sooner the better because the inventories, once they’re gone, they will be gone,” he said.
The possibility of another round of winter weather prompted Belleville to share a letter from the city’s public works department, encouraging residents to either park on one side of their street or in their driveways.
The request is aimed at giving plows and first responders enough room to safely maneuver if more snow falls next week.
Some residents said cars parked on both sides of their street prevented plows from getting through in January.
Dyson hopes residents follow the city’s advice.
“Get the cars out of the way so we can let the plows come through and do what they need to do,” she said.
