ST. LOUIS – Police are asking for the public’s help to find a driver who struck and killed a bicyclist in a hit-and-run collision Tuesday evening in south St. Louis.

According to a spokesman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the hit-and-run happened around 7:50 p.m. at Gravois and Bamberger avenues in the Tower Grove South neighborhood.

Police said the bicyclist was traveling west on Gravois in the bike line and then turned south at Bamberger, across the westbound lanes of Gravois. During that turn, a gray SUV struck the bicyclist as he crossed into the eastbound lanes of Gravois. The driver of the SUV fled after the collision.

The bicyclist landed in the westbound lanes of Gravois, where he was struck by three other vehicles. Police said two of those vehicles remained at the scene and are cooperating with the investigation.

The bicyclist was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced. He’s not been identified.

Police said the bicyclist was riding against traffic and was not at a crosswalk or traffic signal when he was struck.
