ST. LOUIS – Friday evening, the Blues at the Arch Music Festival kicked off its three-day extravaganza celebrating St. Louis’ rich blues heritage.

It’s the perfect pairing: the area’s most iconic landmark combined with the city’s signature sound. The Blues at the Arch Music Festival launches its ninth edition this weekend.

“In the shadow of the Gateway Arch is like two of the coolest things that can be combined and you know it will make an awesome festival,” event manager Jason Douglas with the Gateway Arch Park Foundation said.

The three-day family event showcases both traditional and contemporary blues and weaves the cultural fabric tied to the region while appealing to all generations.

“Blues has a little bit of every genre of music. It can touch people from teenyboppers to people in the 60s, 70s, and 80s—it doesn’t discriminate. That’s why it’s so important that we keep the blues tradition alive, and that’s why we keep doing this festival,” Douglas said.

Saturday’s slate is filled with five musical artists, ranging from local favorites to internationally known headliners. With the cooler temperatures projected for the weekend, this free multi-day concert is sure to be a hit.

“A full day starting at noon (Saturday), kicking it off with Jeremiah Johnson. We have the Soulard Blues Band, Lamar Harris, Marquise Knox and closing it out with Nikki Hill,” Douglas said. “The weather is going to be amazing. We couldn’t have asked for better weather here in downtown St. Louis, so we’re thrilled and excited to get this festival started.”

Saturday’s performances will be followed by a fireworks spectacular against the backdrop of the iconic Gateway Arch, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
