COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Missouri Tigers have enjoyed one of the best turnarounds in college basketball this season, improving from a winless conference record last year to three victories over top-five teams.

Mizzou, ranked 15th in AP’s college basketball rankings, improved to 20-6 overall with a thrilling 110-point victory at home Wednesday against the No. 4 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. And with five regular-season games left, the Tigers can triple their win total from last year (eight) by winning at least four.

The impressive comeback campaign not only has the Tigers on track for a March Madness bid, but also in contention for one of the tournament’s highest seeds if they can hold steady over the next few weeks.

Where are the Tigers projected to land in the March Madness seeding? A lot will depend on their finish in the regular season and performance in the SEC Tournament. However, there’s a strong consensus Mizzou will land in the top half of the field, and the top quarter is also still within reach.

Here’s a closer look at current projections:

  • On3.com projects a March Madness three-seed for Mizzou in the South division.
  • RockMNation.com projects a tournament four-seed.
  • TeamRankings.com also projects a tournament four-seed.
  • ESPN projects a five-seed in the Midwest division.
  • CBS Sports also projects a five-seed in the Midwest division.
  • FOX Sports projects a five-seed in the South division.
  • Hoops HQ projects a five-seed in the East division.
  • USA Today also projects a five-seed in the East division.
  • SportingNews projects a tournament five-seed.
  • NCAA.com projects six-seed in the South division.
  • Bleacher Report projects a seven-seed in the East division.

While we won’t know Mizzou’s exact spot until Selection Sunday on March 16, many factors will influence their final ranking if their record is close to other top teams. Considerations include strength of schedule, record vs. common opponents, dominance of wins and how many SEC teams make the tournament.

The Tigers have five games left on their regular-season schedule, including the next four against unranked conference foes and the home-season finale against the No. 17 ranked Kentucky Wildcats on March 8. The SEC Tournament, another opportunity to boost their March Madness resume, runs from March 12-16.
