ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating an incident of a carjacking that ended with a man in custody Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, a 32-year-old woman was sitting in her vehicle near North Market and Hadley streets in north St. Louis around 2:45 p.m. when an unknown man approached her vehicle, demanding her to get out at gunpoint.
The woman exited the car when the man took her vehicle and fled.
Police distributed information of the suspect and the vehicle to other officers, which led to them discovering the stolen car leaving a salvage yard in the 3800 block of Cote Brilliante Ave. When the suspect saw police, he fled, which turned into a pursuit.
The release noted that while in the pursuit along Interstate 70, the suspect hit another car.
Police followed the man into St. Louis County before they were able to spike the vehicle, ending the chase in the 1300 block of Dunn Rd.
They took a 34-year-old man into custody. There were no other reports of injuries.
Police are continuing to investigate.
