ST. LOUIS – One man has been charged in a fatal drive-by shooting in the city’s Vandeventer neighborhood.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting occurred on April 13 at the intersection of North Sarah Street and Page Boulevard.

Officers found a silver BMW 745 Li stopped in the middle of the intersection. The victim, Bryan Boyle, was slumped over in the driver’s seat of the BMW. He was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot, but later succumbed to his wound. Boyle was 35.

Unsettled weather continues, with rounds of strong storms possible

Investigators reviewed surveillance video from the area and saw a grey Dodge Charger pull up along the passenger side of the BMW at the intersection. The Charger then quickly pulls off while the BMW slowly inches forward before coming to a stop.

Police claim to have tracked the Dodge Charger to a woman, who said she was at work at the time of the shooting, but her boyfriend, Samuel L. Hayes, 30, had access to the vehicle.

In 2020, Hayes and Boyle got into a fight, resulting in Hayes shooting Boyle. Charges were never issued in that matter.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Hayes with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Hayes remains jailed without bond. He’s due in court on June 4.
