ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Woodson Terrace man was charged with shooting at police officers following a pursuit Wednesday afternoon in north St. Louis County.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, an officer with the Breckenridge Hills Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a 2014 Lexus near Calvert and North avenues around 4:30 p.m.

The driver initially pulled over for the officer. The stop was for a license plate violation and excessively tinted windows. The officer suspected the driver, identified as Je’von Henderson, was intoxicated and placed a tire deflation device in front of the Lexus. He asked Henderson to step out of the vehicle, but Henderson took off.

Police pursued the Lexus onto the ramp of southbound Interstate 170. Henderson eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch at Natural Bridge Road I-170.

When officers arrived at the scene and approached the Lexus, Henderson pointed a pistol at an officer and opened fire, the probable cause statement said. Police returned fire and struck Henderson.

Police said they found a 9 mm pistol and an AR-style pistol in the front compartment of the Lexus. A large amount of suspected marijuana was seen on the floorboard as well.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Henderson with first-degree assault – special victim, armed criminal action, and resisting arrest. Henderson remains hospitalized for his wounds. Upon his discharge, Henderson will be jailed on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
