CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – When Max Leeman heard items were being auctioned off at Chesterfield Mall, he decided to get in on the action.

“I bought a cart from the former Sears,” he said. “I also got some of the social media signs advertising Chesterfield Mall social media.”

Leeman wasn’t the only one.

“I got myself a ladder,” Tyler Drabing said. “Also a battery pack system for a computer and some old cups from a TV show, Yellowstone.”

While pickleball games are the biggest action the mall sees in its last days, buyers were arriving to pick up their items after Thursday night’s auction. Items from the AMC movie theater, along with various knick-knacks, were just some items for sale.

“We had different signs from the movie theater and from throughout the mall,” Vince Sweeney with Piddle Creek Mercantile & Auctions said.  “We do have more blueprints from the mall and people want that where all the stores are.”

All tenants leases end Aug. 31 and the mall is set to be demolished in the beginning of October. A new mixed-use development will take its place.

“There’s a lot of nostalgia and everyone thinks about their teen years and growing up and people think about the mall,” Sweeney said. “That’s what it brings back—memories of hanging out, going to a movie and the arcade. So, it brings back a lot of emotions too.”
