ST. LOUIS – St. Louis SC’s CITYPARK is the world’s best-designed sports facility, according to Prix Versailles.
Established by UNESCO, Prix Versailles annually releases a series of lists honoring the finest architectural projects across different venues worldwide in categories including sports venues, hotels, airports and museums.
CITYPARK received the top spot in the prestige sports category of the 2024 Prix Versailles, beating out Masschusetts’ Gillette Stadium, Canada’s təməsew̓txʷ, France’s Olympic Aquatic Centre, and China’s Workers’ Stadium and Hybrid Stadium.
Prix Versailles introduced the World’s Most Beautiful Sports Venues List in 2019, selecting the best venues based on their overall design, interior, and exterior architecture. Canada’s təməsew̓txʷ won the special prize for interior design and France’s Olympic Aquatic Centre won the special prize for the exterior design.
St. Louis’ CITYPARK opened in Nov. 2022 and is the largest urban professional sports campus in the United States, seating 22,500 fans. The venue will now serve as a prototype for future MLS project developments.
HOK and Snow Kreilich Architects constructed the stadium. The venue’s design incorporates elements from the surrounding St. Louis neighborhoods and draws inspiration from the iconic Gateway Arch.
Beginning on Jan. 1, 2025, St. Louis City SC will begin a partnership with Energizer, renaming the 22,500-seat stadium to Energizer Park.
