CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – Volunteers with the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis and the Regional Business Council met Thursday morning to clean up a few neighborhoods in Cahokia Heights, Illinois.

“The Urban League (has) over 350 full-time employees that work very hard every day,” James Clark, the Urban League’s vice president of public safety, said. “We do everything from housing to youth development to workforce development.”

The Clean Up, Build Up initiative is an on-going, multi-year partnership to start the revitalization process of challenged neighborhood.

Their next step is making areas of Cahokia Heights a safer place to work and live, as well as helping to provide more resources.

“Since 2017, we’ve gone into some of the hardest-hit neighborhoods and the biggest aspect of it is the partnership that we have been able to establish,” Clark said. “So, moving forward, you will be receiving more resources; this community will be engaged moving forward.”
