ST. LOUIS – Donna Baringer was sworn in today as the new Comptroller of the city, sharing power with Mayor Cara Spencer and Aldermanic President Megan Green.

Baringer, a former city alderwoman and state representative, ousted longtime Comptroller Darlene Green, who had been re-elected seven times and served for nearly 30 years.

Baringer cites her family as a driving force in her ambition to make the city prosperous for all.

“When my sons were little, I would say, ‘find your passion and you’ll never work another day in your life,’” Baringer said. “I could not have foreseen that I would find my passion in what I do.”

Baringer plans to be a more public face of City Hall than her predecessor, Darlene Green, aiming to give voice to critical issues facing the city.

At the top of Baringer’s agenda is the transformation of Lambert Airport, a project valued at close to $3 billion.

“I want to make my ancestors proud. Our city, I want to make it the best it can be from the east to the west, from the north to the south,” Baringer said. “We are one St. Louis.”
