ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – “My parents bought this place in July of 1960, and I have lived here most of the time,” Nancy VanCleve said.

Of all the things that’ve changed since then, Nancy says one thing has remained the same.

“The same landline, same phone number since that day,” she said.

Nancy’s landline is her lifeline. She knows it’s old-fashioned, but she has no interest in a cell phone.

“I’m not a technical person. I want my landline,” VanCleve said.

Lately, the landline has left Nancy on an island. She says her home phone service was out for 10 days this summer.

“They got it fixed in August, but then Sept. 18 is when the problem started. I have been without a phone since Sept. 18 this year,” VanCleve said.

When you call Nancy’s phone, you hear a busy signal. When she tries to make a call, she says you hear nothing. Nancy tells us she’s tried to get AT&T to fix the problem.

“When I called them the last time, they said it’s a problem with the underground cables. There’s a split in it. We have to dig to get to it. We have to coordinate with the county and the municipalities to get permission to dig,” VanCleve said.

That’s when Contact 2 got involved. After interviewing Nancy, we contacted AT&T to share her concerns and ask about the holdup. Apparently, that was enough.

“You were here on a Friday, and by Tuesday my phone was fixed,” VanCleve said.

In a statement, an AT&T spokesperson told Contact 2: “We’ve restored home phone service for this customer following repairs to a section of our cable that experienced water damage. We understand how essential it is for our customers to stay connected, and we’ve reached out to this customer to apologize for her experience.”

“Without your help, I probably still wouldn’t have a phone,” VanCleve said.

Now that’s a ringing endorsement.
