ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – An armed confrontation between two men at a Schnucks store in Florissant ended with the aggressor being shot. That individual has since been charged.

According to the Florissant Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting took place Monday afternoon at the Cross Keys Schnucks, located in the 13000 block of New Halls Ferry Road.

Officers found Derrick Johnson, 29, in one of the store’s aisles, suffering from a gunshot wound to his midsection. Johnson was hospitalized. His injuries were not life-threatening.

According to police, Johnson spotted the victim in the frozen food section. Johnson pulled out a loaded pistol and moved toward the victim.

The victim turned and ran to another aisle in the store. While fleeing, the victim took out his own firearm, turned, and shot Johnson.

The incident was recorded on store surveillance video, police said.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Johnson with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. A judge set a $100,000 cash-only bond for Johnson.
