ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Lisa Wines sells gift baskets for special occasions. Cars were pulling up to her table of Valentine’s Day baskets along Natural Bridge in Beverly Hills on Friday.

Her heart goes out to local business owners stuck with making costly repairs following recent crashes into buildings.

“People work hard to get what they need to support their family,” she said.

Wines was talking about the costly damage from a smash and grab Thursday in the north St. Louis County community of Beverly Hills and an apparent attempt to commit a similar crime at a 7-Eleven on Watson Road Friday morning.

St. Louis County Police report receiving a call just before 4:30 a.m. Friday after a pickup truck crashed into the store. It was not immediately clear what the motive for the destruction was. An ATM was located inside the store but was still standing when police arrived.

Pine Lawn resident Robert Tanson also expressed frustration over the destruction.

“We need to start pulling together,” he said.

Wines doubts thieves even think about the damage they are causing.

“They really don’t realize it, and I really don’t think they care,” she said.
