ST. LOUIS – Big changes are coming to a historic downtown building that has stood vacant for years. The plan is to convert the former One AT&T Center into a mixed-use development and, hopefully, have as many as 600 apartments.

The amenities would include an observation deck, indoor pickleball, and even a movie theatre.

The Goldman Group is the real estate firm behind the plans for the 1.4-million-square-foot tower. They bought the building last year and St. Louis Aldermanic President Megan Green said plans are coming together.

Green believes there will be even more developments in downtown this year.

“Between having the AT&T building under plans by a developer who actually has the ability to move something forward to the eminent domain proceedings moving forward with Railway Exchange to getting the Millennium Hotel into good hands,” she said. “I think a lot of these major structures that have sat vacant are experiencing some very positive forward moving momentum.”

Just a few miles away in the Central West End, construction will soon begin on a new apartment building at Lindell and South Kingshighway.

Green said the goal is to add 10,000 apartments across the city to keep up with the growing demand.

“We have seen rental prices go up since the pandemic; we’ve lost more units off the marketplace than we’ve been adding to them, which has exacerbated some of those costs,” she said. “So, the more that we can do to bring more units across the city, we know it will help bring the prices down, and it’ll also help meet the demand that is out there for quality rental.”
