ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s May concert lineup features a diverse mix of performances before the orchestra returns to Powell Hall next season. The schedule includes a semi-staged production of Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt, a hip-hop collaboration with DMC and the Sugarhill Gang, a symphonic tribute to The Beatles, and a Disney-themed program for Mother’s Day weekend.
Hip-hop icons DMC and the Sugarhill Gang will bring their hits to the symphony stage. The program will feature Run-DMC classics like “It’s Tricky” and “Walk This Way” alongside Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight” and “Apache,” blending rap with orchestral arrangements.
The Beatles will be celebrated in Revolution, a symphonic tribute featuring arrangements of over 25 songs, including “Hey Jude,” “Penny Lane,” and “Here Comes the Sun.” The concert incorporates photographs, video, and animation.
Disney fans can enjoy Disney Princess: The Concert, featuring Broadway stars performing songs from films such as Frozen, Moana, and The Little Mermaid. The event encourages audience members to dress in royal attire.
As Powell Hall’s renovation nears completion, concerts will take place at the Stifel Theatre and the Contemporary Art Museum. For tickets and more information, visit slso.org.
