ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A couple followed a driver for nearly 14 miles through St. Louis County, then confronted him in a parking lot over a traffic dispute before firing shots at his vehicle, police say.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed charges Monday against Torrence Triplett, 26, and Miracle Amerson, 24, amid the investigation. Both face felony charges of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.
Triplett and Amerson are accused in a shots-fired incident that followed an apparent road rage encounter on March 30.
According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, the victim was driving on Interstate 64 near Interstate 270 when he passed a vehicle occupied by Triplett and Amerson, allegedly cutting them off.
The couple then reportedly followed the victim onto I-270 all the way to a Walgreens parking lot at 7398 North Lindbergh Boulevard in Hazelwood.
After that, the couple briefly confronted the victim in the parking lot, and the victim attempted to drive away from the scene, fearing for his safety. At that point, Triplett allegedly fired multiple shots at and into the victim’s vehicle, per court documents.
In a search warrant that followed the shooting, police recovered one weapon from the suspects’ vehicle, in addition to another weapon and a baggie with “multi-colored tablets and [a] white powdery substance” from the suspects’ home.
Amerson reportedly told police that she waved a firearm at the victim and that her boyfriend, identified as Triplett, shot into the victim’s vehicle, according to court documents.
Triplett and Amerson are both scheduled for preliminary hearings on May 7 in connection with this case, per online Missouri court records.
