FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. – An elderly man is dead and three teenagers are seriously injured following a collision on a service road just off Interstate 44 in St. Clair, Missouri.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crash report, the collision occurred around 9:10 p.m. Saturday on North Service Road near Marcus Drive.
The highway patrol said a 2010 Mazda 3 and a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee were traveling on the service road; the Mazda was headed west while the Cherokee was going east.
The report says the driver of the Cherokee was not paying attention and crossed the center line into westbound traffic. The front left of the Cherokee struck the front left of the Mazda.
The Mazda was knocked into a spin and went off the side of the road. The Cherokee struck and came to rest on top of a guardrail.
EMS pronounced the driver of the Mazda dead just after 10 p.m. while en route to the hospital. He was 76. The 18-year-old driver of the Cherokee and the two passengers, ages 17 and 15, suffered serious injuries.
According to the report, the 76-year-old was wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision; the three teens in the Cherokee were not.
