MAPLEWOOD, Mo. – Emergency crews rescued a person from the River Des Peres in Maplewood on Thursday morning in a coordinated effort.
The individual was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition after being rescued from the water.
Fire departments from Maplewood, Shrewsbury and St. Louis all played a role in the rescue.
According to the Maplewood Fire Department, Shrewsbury crews immediately offered life-support care to the individual during the rescue operation. Maplewood fire crews used a UTV to reach the river quickly to help bring the person out of the water.
Rescue teams also used a stokes basket to help the individual from the water to the UTV. A short time later, the individual was transferred to a hospital for treatment.
Officials say the victim is in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon. The Maplewood Fire Department says crews at the scene worked quickly in efforts to provide life-saving care.
