JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – A Murphy, Missouri, woman is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from fundraisers at the school where she used to work.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s probable cause statement, the crimes occurred between Dec. 1, 2023, and Feb. 13, 2025.
Deputies said a school resource officer contacted the sheriff’s office about an employee taking money from a fundraiser for a family in need.
That employee, identified as Amy Borghesi, returned the money to the school after being confronted and any additional money the district believed to have been stolen.
The sheriff’s office did not identify which school Borghesi worked for.
Borghesi was then fired and the school conducted an internal audit of several fundraisers that occurred during Borghesi’s two-year employment. The school discovered stolen money totaling $12,672.40 in cash from multiple fundraisers.
Borghesi admitted to investigators that she’d collect the cash from the fundraisers and take some of the money home in her bag, deputies said. She’d spend the stolen money on things like groceries and other household items.
The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Borghesi with stealing – $750 or more. A circuit court judge issued Borghesi a criminal summons to appear in court on Monday, June 23.
