FERGUSON, Mo. – A head-on car crash Tuesday morning in Ferguson sent five people to the hospital, including a family of three.

Around 8 a.m., the driver of an SUV lost control of their car in the 600 block of Chambers Road and crossed the center line, hitting a truck head-on, according to police.

“You got two vehicles traveling between 35 and 45 mph, and there’s no braking that’s indicated; you’re going to have a lot of damage,” Capt. Harry Dilworth of the Ferguson Police Department said. “And out of that damage, you’re going to have some sort of traumatic injuries.”

Capt. Dilworth says the vehicles sustained major damage. Neighbors say accidents are common along this particular stretch of road.

“(Accidents happen) all the time, at least once a week,” Alletta Winston, resident, said. “Up and down the streets, cause they’re drag racing and everything…all the time.”

Several traffic calming efforts have been proposed by the City of Ferguson, however, the final decision is up to St. Louis County.
