BELLEVILLE, Ill. – A two-month-old is safe and Belleville police are looking for the child’s father following a kidnapping overnight.

According to a Belleville Police Department spokesperson, officers were called to a home in the 1000 block of Wabash Avenue just before 3:25 a.m. for a reported domestic disturbance.

When officers arrived, they met with the infant’s mother, who said the child’s father took the infant from the home without her permission.

The father had been an invited guest at the home until an unspecified incident with the child’s mother.

Belleville police canvassed the area to locate the father and infant, but to no avail.

Around 5 a.m., a family member brought the two-month-old back to the mother’s home. The father is not in custody.

The father has not been identified because he has not been formally charged with a crime.
