ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Investigators in St. Louis County say a Ferguson man opened fire on his ex-girlfriend while she was seated in a vehicle at an apartment complex.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting happened on July 17 at the Sugar Pines Apartments.
Police said Charles D. Jones (age not provided) approached his ex-girlfriend while she was in her car, pointed a gun through the window, and opened fire. The bullet struck the steering wheel.
Police said Jones gave officers permission to search his apartment. Officers found a gun tucked under a mattress that matched the description of the weapon used in the shooting.
Police said Jones admitted to firing the gun but claimed he only intended to hit the window and not fire into the vehicle.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Jones with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action. Jones was jailed on a $250,000 cash-only bond. He’s due in court on July 26 for a bond reduction hearing.
