ST. LOUIS – After several days of torrential rainfall, a stretch that has extended into the weekend, several spots around metro St. Louis are now experiencing rising waters and significant flooding threats.

Several rivers and creeks are currently well above normal levels, with some already seeing flooding. Many river level forecasts are predicting moderate to major flooding into early next week.

According to data compiled by FOX 2 from the National Weather Service, the following areas are believed to be or soon to be experiencing flooding.

MAJOR FLOOD

  • Meramec River (Valley Park, Missouri)
  • Meramec River (Eureka, Missouri)
  • Kaskaskia River (Vandalia, Illinois)

A major flood stage indicates extensive inundation of roads and structures, which could potentially require some evacuations and prolonged disruptions to daily life, according to the National Weather Service. Bodies of water at this designation are likely 6 feet above flood stage levels.

As of Saturday morning, the Meramec River is forecast to crest at 29 feet in Valley Park and 33.2 feet in Eureka, both between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Kaskaskia River is expected to crest at 26 feet in Vandalia by 7 p.m. Sunday.

MODERATE FLOOD

  • Meramec River (Fenton, Missouri)
  • Meramec River (Pacific, Missouri)
  • Meramec River (Sullivan, Missouri)
  • Big River (Byrnesville, Missouri)
  • Black River (Annapolis, Missouri)
  • Little St. Francis River (Fredericktown, Missouri)
  • Darfeene Creek (St. Peters, Missouri)

A moderate flood stage indicates flooding of some structures and main roadways that may extend into residential areas. Bodies of water at this designation could be 3 to 6 feet above flood stage levels.

As of Saturday morning, these are crest projections for the Meramec River

  • Fenton: 30.5 feet (expected crest 1 a.m. Wednesday)
  • Pacific: 23.3 feet (1 a.m. Tuesday)
  • Sullivan: 24.7 feet (1 a.m. Sunday)

Elsewhere, the Big River has a projected crest of 24 feet at 7 p.m. Sunday, while Dardenne Creek has a crest level of 21.1, though it is believed to be already past crest.

MINOR FLOOD

  • Mississippi River (Chester, Illinois)
  • Meramec River (Arnold, Missouri)
  • Meramec River (Steelville, Missouri)
  • Bourbese River (Union, Missouri)
  • Kaskaskia River (Carlyle, Illinois)

A minor flood stage typically results in flooding of low-lying areas, including some roads, parks and private properties. Bodies of water at this designation could be anywhere from 1 to 3 feet above flood stage levels.

  • Mississippi River (Chester, Illinois) – 28.1 feet (expected crest 7 p.m. Tuesday)
  • Meramec River (Arnold, Missouri) – 33.3 feet (1 a.m. Wednesday)
  • Meramec River (Steelville, Missouri) – 15.5 feet (1 a.m. Sunday)
  • Bourbese River (Union, Missouri) – 21.3 feet (1 p.m. Monday)
  • Kaskaskia River (Carlyle, Illinois) – 19.5 feet (Past crest)
