VALLEY PARK, Mo. – The intersection of Interstate 44 and Highway 141 is not underwater, but this is one location where flooding is a concern. On Sunday morning, traffic was moving through the area without problems.
The Meramec River is expected to crest near 28.70 feet on Tuesday and at that level, the northbound lanes of highway 141 at I-44 may be impacted.
On Saturday, sandbagging efforts took place in Pacific. The city’s emergency management agency alerted residents that highway N south of the Meramec River is closed due to water. Major thoroughfares are expected to remain open – there could be some street closures but the good news at this point is that the impact on populated areas is expected to be minimal.
“So we’re just keeping a very close eye on the waters see where they go, make sure if we need to close roads we close them at an appropriate time give everybody notice,” said Pacific Mayor Heather Filley. “Most of where the flooding will be will be open fields and not businesses and residences so that is a plus.”
