EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – A Florissant, Missouri, is accused of striking an officer with the Brooklyn Police Department during a police chase the weekend.
According to a charging statement from the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office, the pursuit happened on Sunday, March 16, when a Brooklyn police officer attempted to make a traffic stop on Kendall Brown, 27.
Prosecutors said Brown sped off with police in pursuit.
A Brooklyn officer attempted to deploy a spike strip on Illinois Route 3 near Venice. Brown allegedly swerved toward the officer, striking the officer’s leg and hand, and running over his foot. Prosecutors said the officer’s thumb nearly severed.
The pursuit continued across the McKinley Bridge. Authorities said Brown crashed at Goodfellow Boulevard and Lillian Avenue in north St. Louis and was taken into custody.
Prosecutors charged Brown with two counts of aggravated battery and two counts of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
The injured officer was released from the hospital on Sunday.
