FLORISSANT, Mo. – A Florissant resident’s home was nearly destroyed when a massive tree came crashing down, just nearly missing her bedroom window by just an inch.
Like thousands of others in North County, she has been without power for four days.
With hotels booked up and fears of looters in the area, she had no choice but to stay in her damaged home with her family.
Roxane Lockhart-King, her husband, who suffers from dementia, their three sons and their dog hid in the basement when the storm hit
But later that night, as the winds calmed, disaster struck.
With no safe shelter available, Lockhart-king returned to her powerless home, relying on donations from community organizations and councilwoman Sholanda Webb.
“She’s been very helpful towards us. Her and the community itself. They provide us with food and water,” Lockhart-King said. “They provided us with blankets and they’ve sort of been there in our corner and I really appreciate them because this weekend has been a devastating weekend for me.”
Determined to stay connected, Roxane used a portable car jump-starter to charge her phone.
With no heat, she relied on blankets and donations from groups like Diamond Diva Empowerment, the American Red Cross and the Korey Johnson Foundation.
Just hours ago, Roxane received good news—her power was finally restored at 7 p.m.
But with the tree still lodged in her home, she’s now waiting for her insurance agent to determine the next steps.
