MISSOURI — Just in time for Cinco de Mayo on Monday, food writers at Love Food have crowned one Mexican restaurant chain in Missouri as the best in the Show Me State.

According to Love Food, they found the best Mexican spots state-by-state across the country based on customer reviews, awards, and first-hand experience of their writers.

Their team named Session Taco as the best in Missouri for its “fresh, bold food,” with several locations across the state. The restaurant is noted for its Mexican-style cuisine of California and “breezy West Coast ambiance.”

Love Food highlighted the restaurants’ Baja fish tacos and street corn off the cob served with garlic-lime mayo and queso fresco.

Session Taco was previously known as Mission Taco Joint and was first opened in 2013 in the Delmar Loop. Now the chain has grown into seven locations across the state, including one location in Kansas City.

Across the river, in Illinois, Love Food named Topolobampo in Chicago as the top spot for Mexican food in the state. The James Beard Award-winning spot in Chicago’s River North neighborhood offers a sleek dining experience with regional Mexican dishes like sopa Azteca and guinea hen mole.
