KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A former University of Missouri star athlete and his brother were arrested last week after investigators said they were involved in an armed robbery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

According to court records, on Thursday, March 6, 34-year-old Mizzou alumnus Marcus Denmon, and 29-year-old Malik Denmon, were arrested on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon in Kansas City after court records said they stole thousands from a woman at a Tulsa apartment complex.

On the night of Jan. 17, nearly two months ago, police were called to the Cascata Apartments near East 79th Street and South Mingo Road on reports of an “ambush.”

Court records said that a woman was packing her car to travel to Kansas City for a friend’s bachelorette party when two men showed up with weapons and stole approximately $16,000 in cash and personal items.

After the robbery, investigators reported finding video surveillance footage from a nearby hotel that showed a white Chevrolet Malibu leave the apartment complex following the crime.

It was eventually determined that the car was from a Platte City, Missouri rental car business and was registered under Marcus’ name.

According to court documents, the video also showed the car with tinted windows in Tulsa, however, when it returned to the Platte City business, it had no tint.

Following their return to the metro, court records said that the Denmons had made a number of “suspicious cash deposits” to different Kansas City-based ATMs between Jan. 17-26.

Both men were arrested and ordered to be extradited on Thursday. However, as of Saturday afternoon, both men were still being held without bond in a Jackson County jail.

Marcus is a Hogan Preparatory Academy and Kansas City-native. He played for four years at Mizzou, and while he was a Tiger, earned First Team All-Big 12 honors.

During the 2012 NBA Draft, Denmon was selected 59th overall by the San Antonio Spurs, and eventually played professional basketball internationally in Europe and China.
