ST. LOUIS — A woman was sentenced to two years in prison for setting multiple fires at a Marriott hotel after being terminated from her job as a housekeeper. A judge sentenced Ramona Cook, 26, to three years of supervised release and ordered her to pay $119,067 in restitution.
According to court documents, Cook was fired from the Marriott St. Louis Airport on December 22, 2022. She was fired for being intoxicated at work, according to a court motion. After being escorted out by police, she returned to the hotel and deliberately set seven small fires in various locations around 5 p.m. The incident resulted in a full hotel evacuation of around 400 rooms and activation of the sprinkler system, causing significant damage.
In August, Cook pleaded guilty to a felony charge of using interstate commerce facilities to commit a violent crime. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case.
