ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A St. Louis County apartment complex long considered by neighbors to be a problem property is now home to a St. Louis County Police substation. The new owners of the former Lucas Hunt Village apartment complex say they’ve turned the place around.

The ownership group, along with members of the St. Louis County Police Department, held a grand opening Thursday evening for the new substation. The substation will be located in one of the units on-site.

The community has also been rebranded and is now called the Northern Village Apartments. The property was bought by Northern Village LLC back in February. One of the new ownership group’s partners tells FOX 2 they’ve added 24-hour security, cracked down on crime, and renovated more than 100 units already.

Partner Yossi Malka says one of their goals in buying this troubled property was to establish a better relationship with law enforcement.

“I made them a promise that we were going to come in here and change it around,” Malka said. “We hired full-time, 24-hour security. We’ve buckled down on crime. And we’ve really turned this place around in less than a year.”

Malka said the Northern Village Apartments feature more than 600 units. They’re located near Lucas & Hunt and I-70, close to Norwood Hills Country Club and Lutheran North High School.
