ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis-based company called KNOWiNK is taking their poll pads to voters nationwide in the next two weeks. But on Thursday, they teamed up with Forsyth School and let the students run the election to choose their new mascot.

A conference room was converted into a polling place with sixth graders as election judges, assisting fourth graders cast their ballot.

“Vote,” sixth grader Zoila said. “Every vote counts.”

The school had 460 students and teachers taking part in the election to decide which Freddy the Falcon would become the new mascot.

“Students were able to build platforms, campaign, and think politically about what’s going to win their Freddy the vote in the election,” sixth grade social studies teacher Joe Kaminski said.

Using iPads or Poll Pads, the St. Louis start-up behind KNOWiNK election technology ensures that every vote counts and is quadruple checked.

“It’s really cool to see just how much security there is and just how important your vote is,” student poll worker Owen said. “I think that’s cool; we’re coming up with new ways to make sure that no one cheats in the election.”

Freddy #2 won the election.
