ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A large water main break in Glendale has Missouri American Water crews busy Thursday morning.
The break happened on North Sappington Road, south of Manchester Road, in front of North Glendale Elementary School. The school day, as well as homes in the area, could be impacted Thursday by the break amid ongoing repairs.
Missouri American Water released a map of the break that shows the main impacted area to be along North Sappington Road, generally speaking between Alexandra Avenue and Chelsea Avenue. North Sappington, which is a pretty busy road in the area, is closed between Kirkham Avenue and Brownell Avenue.
Fox 2’s Nissan Rogue Runner Brian Howe was at the scene of the break overnight. An advisory from Missouri American Water says the break happened about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night. Missouri American says repairs are expected to take about 12 hours to complete.
It has not been confirmed what size the main was that broke or what caused the problem. An alert from the city of Glendale says it’s unclear whether water service will be restored before school begins at North Glendale Elementary Thursday morning.
Authorities have alerted school officials about the situation, but there is no word yet on whether school may be cancelled for Thursday or not.
Missouri American Water is advising customers in this area that they may experience discolored or cloudy water, low water pressure, or no water at all as the repairs here take place.
This is a developing story; Fox 2 will provide more information once it enters the newsroom.
