ST. LOUIS – The historic election of the new pope is sparking powerful reactions in St. Louis.
Catholics here in St. Louis were watching closely and reacting to the historic moment.
“I’m really stunned by the decision because there was a lot of the talk was that it would not happen, but I’m happy,” Adrianne Fly said.
As the global church enters a new chapter, the faithful here are praying the new pontiff brings unity and peace.
“I’m still digesting the announcement to see how he’s going to be a world leader and how we are going to heal as a country and also globally with regard to humanity,” Diana Maldonado said.
Pope Leo XIV will be formally installed in a ceremony at the Vatican in the coming days.
