CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – The crowd started picking up Monday evening at Dierbergs Marketplace in Chesterfield as people got out and started stocking up ahead of the expected snowfall this week.
Store director Howard Meyer says they are ready.
“We bring in actually an extra couple of pallets of milk just to cover it,” he said.
That large order of milk will arrive Tuesday morning, as well as other necessities.
“We get all the vendors together. Bring in extra product. As much is available because, you know, snow scares aren’t actually expected, so we do the best we can. I think we’re in pretty good shape,” Meyer said.
Meyer said the crowds will be high through Tuesday, basically four days’ worth of business crammed into two. He thinks that even though the forecast isn’t calling for too much snow in the metro area, the mention of sleet may have people on edge after the storm in early January was so bad.
Besides milk, bread, and eggs, there are other popular buys for winter storms.
“Pizzas. Anything that’s easy. Easy stuff, because you’re at home with your kiddos and you want to have a nice snowy evening,” Meyer said.
There were already shoppers out Monday afternoon trying to beat the rush.
“That is exactly why I’m here; so I don’t have to leave if I don’t have to,” Kathleen Smith said.
“My mom’s 100 years old and lives in Creve Coeur, so we’ll stock up for her,” Dennis Litzsinger said.
