AFFTON, Mo. – Faculty and staff arrived to Affton High School Friday morning to find hate graffiti with swastikas and offensive phrases on the side of the school.

District crews are working with professional restoration teams to remove the graffiti. Upon FOX 2’s arrival to the scene, the graffiti was covered up with plastic tarps.

Affton School District Superintendent Dr. Travis Bracht released a statement shortly after discovery, which reads, in part:

“We are deeply saddened and outraged to share that one of our schools was the target of hateful vandalism overnight…We are working closely with our partners in the community, including the Anti-Defamation League, to ensure that such acts of hate are not tolerated and that those responsible are held accountable.

“As a district, we remain committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment. We stand with and support all of our students, staff, and families, as well as all members of our community who are affected by this unacceptable act…hate has no home in Affton School District.”

Law enforcement was immediately contacted upon learning about the graffiti.

The district is offering counseling services to those needing support, as well as encouraging “open conversations at home about the importance of respect, inclusion, and standing against hate in all forms.”

This is a developing story. More will be posted as it comes into the FOX 2 newsroom.
