ST. LOUIS – Following recent incidents of many residents experiencing severe mail problems, Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley says an audit of the United States Postal Service in the state is “definitely going to happen.”

FOX 2 has extensively covered the issues within mail services from the United States Postal Service, between mail taking a cross-country journey before reaching its destination to some citizens not receiving their mail at all.

“Postal workers, I want to be clear, I think are doing a great job, they’re working hard. Postal leadership has really fallen down on the job–they need to get their house in order and they need to start delivering,” Hawley said in an interview with FOX 2.

Last Wednesday, the USPS also announced that they are seeking to raise the price of first-class stamps to 78 cents.

The senator emphasized to FOX 2 that the USPS will raise rates while lowering the service to rural Missouri.

“The postal service has missed its delivery marks, its delivery targets for Missouri, every single year for the last six, seven, eight years – this is ridiculous,” Hawley said. “Americans need to get what they’re paying for. It is a commitment we’ve made as a nation to get the mail everywhere.”

It remains unclear when the the audit will be conducted.
