ST. LOUIS – A hearing was held today for the man charged in the death of St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officer David Lee back in September 2024.
In the early hours of Sept. 22, 2024, Lee was alerted to a car accident on I-70.
While he was placing cones to separate traffic from the impacted area, Lee was hit by a passing car, in which the supposed driver lost control of the vehicle.
Lee was taken to a hospital, where he later passed away during surgery.
The alleged suspect in relation to Lee’s death, Ramon Chavez-Rodriguez, 24, is facing various charges, including DWI, exceeding the posted speed limit and driving without a valid license.
Officials are saying that Chavez-Rodriguez does not have legal status in the United States.
He remains at the city justice center without bond.
Following Officer Lee’s passing, the Missouri House Special Committee on Urban Issues unanimously voted to advance HB 957, which looks to honor the fallen officer’s service.
