ST. LOUIS – A Hillsboro, Missouri, man appeared in St. Louis Circuit Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to more than 200 charges for break-ins and thefts in St. Louis City over several months.
In April 2024, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Gage Luttman, 37, with five counts of second-degree burglary, three counts of stealing – $750 or more, two counts of first-degree property damage, one count of second-degree property, two counts of first-degree trespassing, and one count of stealing a motor vehicle.
Prosecutors dismissed 11 of those counts as part of a plea agreement with Luttman. He pleaded guilty to the rest of them, approximately 240 in total.
According to investigators with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Luttman committed the break-ins and thefts between August 2023 and March 2024, mostly in the southwest neighborhoods of the city, targeting dozens of businesses, basements, garages, and storage units. He stole thousands of dollars in tools, firearms, electronics, musical instruments, jewelry, and other assorted property.
Police said Luttman used stolen vehicles to commit the break-ins, including at least two Hyundais, two Kias, a Honda, a Vespa, a Dodge Ram, and a 1955 Citroen 2CV.
Surveillance video from numerous crime scenes and Luttman’s own home showed him with many of the reported stolen items.
After Luttman’s arrest, storage unit and garage unit burglaries plummeted in the city’s Second District, police said.
Most of the stolen items were eventually returned to their owners.
A St. Louis Circuit Court judge sentenced Luttman to 14 years in state prison.
Luttman has prior convictions for drug and burglary cases in Jefferson County, as well as pending theft cases in St. Louis and a pending drug possession case in St. Charles County.
