ST. LOUIS – Pet owners are bracing for rising costs in 2025, with a new report revealing that owning a dog or cat can be a significant financial commitment.
According to a report from the pet-sitting website Rover, the lifetime cost of owning a 10-year-old dog can reach $35,000, while a 16-year-old cat can cost up to $32,000.
The report highlights that dog owners should expect a 7% increase in costs this year, while cat owners might see a 10% rise.
These costs can vary significantly depending on factors such as breed, size, health conditions and the animal’s lifespan. Other costs can come from toys, flea medication or pet food.
Rover also noted that the price of bringing a dog home this year is 8% lower than in 2024, with adoption fees becoming lower for owners.
As pet ownership costs continue to rise, owners are encouraged to plan accordingly to ensure they can meet the financial demands of caring for their furry friends.
