ST. LOUIS – Illinois State Police (ISP) have been busy intercepting motorists posing problems through the Statewide Anti-Violence Enforcement (SAVE) team.
ISP Master Sergeant Calvin Dye, who has been serving as a special supervisor in the new unit, appeared on FOX 2’s morning show to discuss the program. Formed in Chicago in 2022, the SAVE unit has been shattering police numbers by intercepting criminals on the interstates and seizing guns and drugs.
After successfully collaborating with and supporting local law enforcement, troopers in Collinsville established a unit to combat the Metro East’s high crime rate. Since Feb. 2023, the unit has seized 429 weapons, arrested 1,054 subjects, and obtained 52,888 grams of marijuana, figures Dye said were very large numbers.
SAVE continues to work in the Metro East and the numbers show the initiative has been making a positive impact on the area.
