BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Voters across Illinois are heading to the polls Tuesday to cast ballots in several high-profile municipal races, including closely watched mayoral contests in Belleville and Alton.

One of the most talked-about races in St. Clair County is the nonpartisan battle for Belleville mayor. The race features two well-known Democratic figures: Current Mayor Patty Gregory and City Clerk Jennifer Gain Meyer.

According to the Belleville News-Democrat, St. Clair County Board Chairman Mark Kern is backing Gregory, while State Representative Jay Hoffman has been actively canvassing for Meyer. While neither has issued a formal endorsement, both have reportedly played influential roles, helping with fundraising, gathering petition signatures, and amplifying campaign messaging.

Gregory, a retired teacher and former arts executive, is seeking a second term. Meyer, a former health official and longtime city clerk, is looking to unseat her with support from local labor unions and community leaders. Write-in candidate Ryan Musick, a contractor, is also running.

Just north in Madison County, the Alton mayoral race is also drawing attention. Incumbent Mayor David Goins is facing two challengers: Former Mayor Brant Walker and Ray Strebel.

Polls across Illinois are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters are encouraged to confirm their polling place and can check live election results by visiting their respective county clerk’s website.
