MORGAN COUNTY, Mo — A man is dead after being hit by a race car at an Illinois dirt track. The Morgan County Coroner’s Office confirms that the 65-year-old was struck in the infield by a winged sprint car that lost control during a race at the Jacksonville Speedway, which is about an hour and 45 minutes northeast of downtown St. Louis.
Officials say the man died at the scene. His name has not been released as his family members are still being notified. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
