ST. LOUIS – As the winter storm gets closer to the St. Louis region, our forecasting models allow us to refine our numbers. With each model run, the extremes of this coming storm are pushed south.

Yes, there will be some big snow with this storm, but that view will be across the southern counties in the FOX 2 viewing area and southern Missouri.

For the metro area, look for 3 to 5 inches of snow accumulation from this system, which will send flakes in waves.

The heaviest snowfall could be late Tuesday. South of the St. Louis area, there will be a 6 to 8-inch snowfall from Rolla to Farmington. Further south of that, a few spots will approach the 12-inch mark, but that will be well out of our viewing area.

The cold will last through the week, with below-freezing temperatures in the forecast until Saturday.
