ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Jennings, Missouri, man stands accused of taking advantage of an elderly neighbor and burglarizing her home on multiple occasions.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, the incidents took place on Feb. 21, Feb. 24, and March 20.

Police said the suspect Marshall Jones (age not provided) lives near the victim, an elderly woman.

The victim’s friend suspected she was being taken advantage of and set up multiple cameras at the victim’s residence.

Police said in the first incident, Jones went to the victim’s home and asked for some sugar. The victim told Jones she didn’t have any. He then asked for some tea. When the victim left her front door open to get the tea, Jones snuck into her home and rummaged through her purse.

Jones went back to the home days later, snuck inside, and stole the victim’s television while she was out of that room, police said. Camera footage at the victim’s residence showed Jones carrying the TV out of the home.

The following month, police said Jones entered the victim’s home through a rear door but left after seeing a camera placement.

Jones was taken into custody and admitted entering the victim’s home and stealing her television, police said. He also told investigators he’d have taken something if the cameras weren’t there the last time he went to the house.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Jones with two counts of first-degree burglary, one count of stealing, and one count of attempted first-degree burglary. Jones remains jailed on a $125,000 cash-only bond. He’s due in court for a bond reduction hearing on April 23, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 15.
