ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – At Greenscape Gardens, they’ve had a steady crowd for the last three weeks since the weather has been so warm and they’re gearing up for what will be a busy Mother’s Day weekend, especially with the gorgeous weather on tap.
“We know it’s going to be one of our busiest. It’s like our Super Bowl,” Beth Kusmin, the annuals and tropicals manager at Greenscape Gardens, said. “We’re going with the momentum and it’s just not letting up and we’re really enjoying it.”
Their staff has been getting their steps in, getting everything ready with plenty of inventory.
“We’re getting trucks daily. In all departments. Trees, shrubs, natives, perennials, annuals, and, of course, the hanging baskets. Tons and tons of hanging baskets for Mother’s Day,” Kusmin said.
Kusmin says they’re also seeing a trend with customers wanting to engage more with nature by planting more natives for pollinators and hummingbirds.
“If you’re walking through a field or anything like that, pay attention to the flowers. A lot of those are natives. Which we have one of the largest native departments in the St. Louis area. So, this all behind me is hummingbird-friendly. It’s a buffet behind me, actually,” she said.
And there were plenty of customers out doing some shopping and getting ahead of the bigger crowds over the weekend.
“We’re getting a little bit ahead of it but look at the crowd here. There’s a lot going on; it’s kind of exciting,” customer Mark Schnuck said. “We’re out picking up some Mother’s Day presents and getting some pots built by Janet, who does phenomenal work here.”
“I thought you have to plant around Mother’s Day when all the frost is over, so I figured this was the perfect time to go out and get some flowers,” customer Laurie Schwarze said. “I am looking to fill up my planter baskets out by my pool.”
They also have plenty of vegetables and herbs ready to be planted in your gardens as well.
