ST. CHARLES, Mo. – On Thursday night, the Lindenwood women’s basketball team will host Tulsa in a WNIT Tournament matchup, a big step forward in their third season as a Division I program.
Lindenwood went 21-10 in the regular season and reached the Ohio Valley Conference championship game.
It’s an impressive turnaround considering that, one year ago, the Lions only won seven games.
“We knew we would be better,” said Lindenwood head coach Amy Eagan. “Our expectations are to win conference championships and play in the NCAA tournament. You never know how quickly that’s going to happen when you’re rebuilding a program. But it goes to show when you get the right kids and the right people in your program, a lot of good things can happen.”
“I think it’s going to be a cool experience for us to play in the NIT,” said Lindenwood sophomore Brooke Coffey. “It’s the first time for Lindenwood. It’s the first time we’ve gotten in any postseason tournaments. I think we want to go out there and try our best to win.”
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Robert F. Hyland Arena in St. Charles.
