ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – Some tornado warnings have emerged in the St. Louis region Wednesday afternoon.
Several counties in the St. Louis area are now under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The National Weather Service has issued two tornado warnings through 5:15 p.m. Wednesday: One through 5 p.m. in St. Clair County, Illinois and another in St. Clair and Clinton counties through 5:15 p.m.
When the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning, a radar has detected rotation or that there has been a tornado sighting and you should take shelter immediately.
A tornado watch indicates that there are favorable atmospheric conditions for the formation of tornadoes, though it does not guarantee a tornado will happen.
Severe storms are possible in the St. Louis region through Wednesday evening. The main threats look to be rain, lightning, scattered hail and gusty winds up to 70 mph.
